How to make a Guest Bedroom Cozy and Inviting

Hello friends! Thanksgiving and Christmas are right around the corner - which means for most of us that we begin to think about hosting friends and family. In fact, we all want our guests to feel welcome and to enjoy their stay with us.

Do you long to create an inviting guest bedroom but don’t know where to start? Today, I am giving you tips on how to create a cozy guest room by adding bedding, texture, ambiance, and accessories to your space where you can go -

From this….

To this.....

In fact, as we talk about creating a cozy space, the most important item to think about in the room is the BED as this is where guests sleep and find rest. There is nothing worse than sleeping on a bed that is uncomfortable…am I right?

In our Airbnb – Our Uptown Cottage which is located in Frederick, MD – our desire is that our guests experience wonderful rest and refreshment.  Therefore, we have chosen a bed that will allow them to feel refreshed with the hopes that they will leave feeling rested as they continue on their journey.

The Agility Bed  is perfect for this guest space. An Agility Bed consists of three key elements: Latex, Mini Micro Coils and Memory Foam which adjusts to body weight - providing maximum comfort.  Not only is an Agility Bed comfortable but it is delivered right to your door - free shipping - and sets up easily.  You have 100 days to test it or your money is returned!  So, there is no losing out with this company! In fact, if you're interested in trying it...use the code COTTAGE100 to receive $100 off.

My husband and I recently slept on this bed for several nights in between our guests arriving and we fell in love with the comfort it provided. We travel a lot with my husband's job and are "picky bed-people" but let me say...this bed passed the test for us! We both experienced excellent sleep and woke up feeling rested. Therefore, we agreed that is the ideal bed for our Airbnb guests to sleep on.  However, don’t just take our word for it….here are what some of our guests are saying about the Agility Bed:

"This bed is extremely comfortable!  Sleeping on this bed definitely helped us get through our jet lag.  The only negative is that we didn't want to get out of it in the morning! We absolutely loved it!  (Dee, London)

"We travel a lot and have stayed at many Airbnb's and hotels....so we have slept in many different types of beds.  This bed is a winner! It is a great combination between soft and firm.  Perfect for us because we have back issues. Truly wonderful!" (Wayne and Emmy, GA)

"This bed was a real treasure to sleep on every night after a full day of exploring the Baltimore/Washington D.C. area.  Honestly, I think it is the most comfortable bed I've ever experienced. I highly recommend The Agility Bed and am hoping to order one for Christmas! (Carol, OK)

Now that you have the most important element....let's continue with more ideas for your guest bedroom:

1.  Start with Bedding

I use white, cotton sheets (so that I can bleach them) and then I add a cozy, down comforter.  In our Airbnb, I like to lay a neutral duvet OVER the comforter, which can be easily removed and washed in between stays.

I also add blankets and pillows - which bring instant coziness to any space. Try styling your blankets in various ways as seen in these pics.

2.  Add Texture

Layering rugs is a great way to bring style into your room and it adds beautiful texture. You can see from this picture that I layered two rugs on top of each other to give this space some character and yes, you can even do this over carpet!

In this little corner, I brought in two white Ikea chairs and placed brown and gray fur pillows on them to tie in my neutral color palette of white, brown, gold and gray.

3.  Add Ambiance

I placed lamps on the sides of the bed so that our guests could read in bed and I also placed lamps near the chairs in the corner.  I found the bedside lamps at Home Goods and placed them on stools. I found the tall lamp in the corner at a thrift store.

4.  Add Accessories

Add pictures, candles, books etc. around your room to help complete the look of coziness and to help tie everything together.

I found the screen door at a barn sale and placed a grapevine wreath on it and placed it behind the headboard to create a cottage-farmhouse look.  Again…it’s the little things that help a room feel inviting.

I like to provide extra blankets for our guests. I rolled these up and placed them in a basket.

Here are a few final pictures of our guest bedroom make-over....
