Boho Bedroom Accent Wall

Hello lovely friends -

I’ve missed you!

I took some time off from blogging to be able to enjoy time with family over the end of the summer and I’m finally getting back into a routine. Have you found it difficult to stick to a routine this year? I sure have! It seems like everything has been so out of whack…but I’m deciding in my heart to continue to do the things that help me with my routine…. daily devotions, exercise, planning what I can, and taking deep breaths and learning to not get stressed when my routine is interrupted! :-)

We’ve all been spending more time at home and because of this it’s easy to get discouraged about the spaces in our homes. (Am I right?) This summer, I walked by my daughter’s bedroom (which hasn’t changed from when she moved several years ago!) and thought…”This room needs help!”

However, I had zero inspiration for this space, so I did nothing!

By the way…when you don’t know what to do about a space, it’s okay to wait and do nothing until you get inspired. About 6 months later, a picture popped up on my IG feed and I knew that this is what I needed to do in this space!

Let me show you some BEFORE pics of this bedroom so that you can see my dilemma.

Before:

Here is my inspiration picture from Ashley @modernly_you. Isn’t this accent wall beautiful? Actually, I love everything about this room!

I could tell that she used thin trim boards to create this look in her room and so I decided to do the same for our guest bedroom.

Here are the supplies you will need:

  1. Trim Boards

    I used 1 1/2” by 1/4” - Mine were already primed from Lowe’s.

2. Wood Glue

I put this on the back of the board first to keep it adhered to the wall.

3. Pin Nailer or hammer and thin nails.

This secures the boards onto the wall after the glue.

4. Chop Saw

You can also use a regular hand saw if you don’t have a chop saw because the boards are thin.

5. Paintable Caulk

This is to fill in the gaps between boards before you paint the wall.

6. The paint of your choice to finish it up.

Here are the steps to creating a fun, boho inspired accent wall:

  1. Decide on your pattern.

This is a fun step! There are so many cool patterns out there so explore Pinterest to find the one that you want!

  2. Use a pencil to mark the wall (or use painter’s tape).

We decided where we wanted to place the trim pieces and then measured where to cut them.

2. Use a chop saw to cut the pieces.

3. Apply wood glue on the back of the boards and then secure them into place with a pin nailer.

4. Keep working along your wall and adding pieces.

I kept my picture handy so that I could refer to it!

4. Fill in the gaps with caulk and then paint.

This is Sherwin Williams Shell White. It is the same color as the trim in this room and allows a small room to really flow together and look bigger.

5. Sit back and enjoy the beautiful wood accent wall!

Thanks for joining me today, friends!

I can’t wait to show you the finished look of this room which will be my next post. This room - which used to be my least favorite room - is now my new favorite room!

Happy Decorating,
